Mac POS (X)   Quick
PayGo POS   Quick, a bit trite
PIMS 707-525-3728, OS 9 only. Readme included in demo claims an OS X version is coming "soon". written in 4D (i think), Needs an interface overhaul
MacBusiness Very sparse, FileMaker Pro based. ($350/$525) No inventory control, no security. If your needs are extremely modest, it might work. If you're looking for a complete POS solution, keep looking.
XpertMart Wow, very comprehensive. It's priced very competitively when compared to other solutions with comparable feature sets. The interface has some quirks and it's not very intuitive. Quick, informative, helpful USB all the way!
POS Web Ware Useful only for a small cafe or bar
360 Commerce< Not for small stores. Written in Java. Used by the Apple Store retail outlets. Because I'm looking a one store solution, the conversation with them ended pretty quickly.
Sixth Sense POS Now that they support USB peripherals, I'll need to evaluate again.
Shopkeeper Designed to be a POS app and integrate with an accounting program. Support for multiple credit card processors. Sold through POSdirect.com. Talk to Tracy (x13), she's VERY helpful.
AuthPay X Very nifty software. Fully AppleScriptable. Expensive at $600. I downloaded the Demo, swiped a credit card through my MiniMag USB card reader and it authorized the card. It then printed out two credit card receipts (cardholder & merchant) on my Star TSP 643U printer. Very cool. :) Uses Concord EFS.net as processor.   Star TSP6/700
IDTech Easy Mag or MiniMag
Plug'n Pay Wow, they support a lot of Networks! Very cool, having a variety of card processors to choose from is a good thing.

Star TSP600 or TSP700 receipt printers

Buy the USB versions. Period. Serial is going the way of the Dodo (thankfully).

Having initially purchased the 613U, I have since returned it in favor of the 643U. When printing credit card receipts, you definately want the bar cutter to partially cut the receipt between pages. Tearing the receipt in two is not cool. Otherwise, the 613U is a perfectly acceptable printer as well.

When you order paper, keep in mind that you must order special two color paper in order for the printer to use that second color capability. The drivers I downloaded (v0.0.3) from Star's web site work just peachy with MacOS X (10.3-10.4).

Logic Controls PD3000UP Pole Display

I own a PD3000UP (USB). It doesn't work with any Mac OS POS software and there aren't (yet) any drivers available for use with OS X. This is primarily the shortcomings of Logic Controls not having developed an OS X driver.

However the PD3000D serial (and a Keyspan serial adapter) will work with various POS apps including Shopkeeper.

HHP 3800i Bar Code Scanner

Spiffy little CDD scanner. Works very reliably. I've been told they're extremely durable, as compared to the more fragile Laser scanner. So far it's been great. Plug it in and go.
