uscpi-tcp from ports

This may seem someting like a dumb question, but it's possible to run the patch for uscpi-tcp to patch the port tree version on a freebsd box?
I mean manually apply the patch.
I just wondering a legacy install of usc-tcpi with the mysql patch from the ports tree.
