Hi,

Has anyone seen this ripmime problem where and email with a single 5K attachment is sent from Squirrel Mail (with the outlook skin) and ripmime takes the next few minutes creating thousands of files called textfile##### in /var/qmail/simscan/process-id/

Eg:

-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       494 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22971
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       622 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22972
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       568 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22973
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       494 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22974
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       622 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22975
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       568 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22976
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       494 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22977
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       622 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22978
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       568 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22979
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       494 Aug 27 23:40 textfile2298
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       494 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22980
-rw-r--r--  1 clamav  vchkpw       622 Aug 27 23:40 textfile22981

I was using he standard ports ripmime version (ripmime-1.4.0.6.tar.gz) and having read some comments tried updating to v1.4.0.7 - July 10, 2007.

However the issue remains.  I came across this when ripmime had generated over 10G of files for 12 emails that were chewing through my processor cycles and the server almost ran out of disk space!

At present I have simply disabled ripmime in simscan but having composed an email using Squirrel Mail with the Outlook skin, upon clicking "Send" once ripmime gets the email the problem persists.

Any thoughts on why ripmime is doing this or has anyone seen or heard of this happening?

I haven't seen that one, but there have been issues like this with ripmime in the distant past. And I recently saw a thread on the simscan mailing list regarding getting rid of ripmime entirely, so apparently someone else was having an issue recently.

Thanks.  I'll have a look for it.

FYI: The topic discussing the issue is:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ripmime/general/237

I retested after a power cycle of the server and the issue did not reoccur.
