Replicate to selected nameservers only ?

Hi,

I have a client who runs (to his own admission) 27 nameservers in various parts of the world. There may be less servers actually under his control and some are 2ndary-only operated by other ISPs.

Anyway, his clients pay for having DNS's "local" in various parts of the world, similar perhaps to what Akamai and friends do for content.

Now, he has a flexible pricing-model that allows the  clients to choose which servers (and geographic locations) their zones actually get replicated to.

Does NicTool make it possible to restricted the distribution of the zonefiles to only parts of the complete server-list ?

Of course.  Create the user in his own group with no name servers. Then delegate only the name servers that client should have access to to his group. They can publish to those servers and no others.

I do this now in my own NicTool installation. The NicTool demo site is actually a subgroup within my (much larger) own NicTool install. In other groups, I have a few other sets of nameservers which (oviously) the demo login has no access to.

That's good.
I read about sub-groups some time after I posted and figured that this must be what I was looking for.
I will try to do a test-install sometime.
