Title: ERROR: Your nameservers disagree as to which version of your DNS is the latest
Post by: rainer_d on November 02, 2005, 02:38:50 AM
Hi,

using http://www.dnsreport.com/, I get this error when the "serials" are seemingly out of sync.
How can I avoid this?
I tried to keep the export-processes in sync, but that's not easy either.
How do you do that?

cheers,
Rainer

There are two methods of generating serial numbers for your zones. The first is tinydns will automatically generate them. To use this, you do nothing, and let tinydns take care of the details. It "just works", and it automatically updates serial numbers and all that.

However, some foreign NICs (nic.fr, and nic.de) have a problem with this. For obtuse and no longer valid reasons, they REQUIRE the serials to match on all your nameservers. NicTool takes care of incrementing the serials for you so all you need to do is remove the -noserials option from your run file so that it will export them.

OK, thank you. After some thinking, I also concluded this (-noserials)  was de rigueur.
I just didn't manage to update this posting. Sorry for that.
BTW: you can add the Swiss Domain Registry "Switch" to the list of picky NICs...
