Interland DNS Network Architecture
Overview: Since DNS is designed to be a distributed hierarchy, it was decided that we'd have our DNS system dispersed across at least three data centers. We currently have one cluster (a) in Atlanta, (b) in Seattle, and (c) in LA. Each cluster has a pair of ServerIron load balancers and at least three servers in it. The first server (a1, b1, and c1) in each cluster runs a a MySQL slave that replicates off db.ns.interland.net. All updates are made to the MySQL master (db) and then replicated throughout.
